My girls also LOVE Apple Tree Farm. They ask for it all the time. It’s funny your son found the “other” Farmyard Tales book. You can’t get on over on him!

You should try putting in the CD that goes with the big blue book. When you can’t read to him one more time, maybe he will sit and listen to the stories on his own and look at the pictures.

Next it will be asking you for a DVD of said stories.

Don’t know if it is worth it for you though, but when Top Ender went through a phase of needing the same story read to her every five minutes we knocked up a quick DVD of my other half reading the book over page scans from the book. That way she was able to hear him read it no matter where he was as I didn’t read it right apparently!
