They Sparkle? Seriously?
September 9th, 2009 | Posted byWith all the traveling I’ve done over the last month (Kentucky, Ohio, Chicago, and Missouri (listed not chronologically, but in my own arbitrary order)), I have spent surprisingly little time at home. This poses a problem as it relates to my blog revolving around Tyler and our adventures. It would be a valid – and true – argument to say that I could just as easily blog while on the road as I could while at home. And this brings me to my confession. If you’ve been following my uncharacteristically sporadic updates on Twitter and Facebook, you already know where I’ve been and why I’ve virtually disappeared from my online world.
UGH! She didn’t know he was a vampire. She didn’t know he was a werewolf. Now she doesn’t know she’s pregnant?! Give me a BREAK!! 11:01 PM Aug 27th from UberTwitter
If he friggin imprints on the newborn, I’m going to assassinate Stephanie Meyer!! 2:17 PM Aug 28th from Text
He imprinted on a friggin’ newborn?! Outrageous! 1:51 PM Aug 31st from UberTwitter
I know my man-card is in danger of being revoked, and for this I need to apologize to all men over the age of twelve. Sheer curiosity made me download the Twilight audiobooks. In the limited free time that would have been better spent blogging, I inserted the earbuds into my auditory opening and pressed the play button.
If it’s any consolation to the fact that I was hooked enough to see how the storyline played out, I did spend quite a bit of time criticizing the story and characters. Sarah informed that the points of the series that had her crying (you too, Mel!) were the same points that I sent her a text message with some variation of “Oh. My. God. Are you freaking kidding me?! How stupid is this going to get?!”
And lastly, to all my blogging friends, I am completely caught up on all your blogs. I made the unfortunate decision to not comment on the backlog of posts in my reader, so that I could get from triple-digit unread blogs, to single digit manageability.
I missed the birth of not Max, I missed good karma planting a kiss on a coal miner’s granddaughter, I missed hearing about my iSister (internet, not interactive) peeing all the time. I missed a lot of stuff and won’t let it happen again.
The tl;dr version:
I got wrapped up in a teeny-bopper love story about sparkling vampires, stupid girls, and an emo, angst-ridden werewolf.
I’m back.

I didn’t think I’d be interested in Twilight at first, but all the hype got me reading it, and I couldn’t put them down. Now I’ve read through the whole series twice. Stephenie Meyer has a new book out right now – I can’t remember what it’s called, but once again, I read the synopsis and it doesn’t hold much appeal. Maybe everyone will start talking about it again, and I’ll read and like it, but I’m thinking she may have been the author’s version of a one-hit wonder.
Oh, and I don’t know about teeny-bopper. I can’t imagine allowing Ava to read a book like that as a young teenager.
If you’re in the mood for more girly-books, though, I can always recommend some good Nora Jones, Barbara Delinsky, or Jodi Piccoult
I tried my hardest to stay AWAY from the Twilight Series, but I was easily swayed by peer pressure and finally picked up the 1st book, about 2 weeks after the movie was released. I only bought the first book, because I just knew I was going to hate the whole thing. Yeah, well I finished that book in 2 days. And couldn’t put down the rest of the series. I finished all 4 books in 2 weeks, they were great, though I didn’t cry.
So glad you’re back to the living and keeping up with your reader, because I was starting to get worried.

I’m comfortable enough in my masculinity to state that I enjoyed reading the Twilight series and the first film. I plan on seeing the rest of the films.
Oh yeah, since you’ve gone down the dark path this far, now you must read “Midnight Sun”, the 5th Twilight book that is on hiatus. The book is a retelling of the first Twilight book but from Edward’s point of view. The first couple hundred draft pages are available as a PDF on Stephenie Meyer’s website.

Worth reading.

Twilight is the WORST! It sucks you in and pushes you away all at once.
I’m reading the Sookie Stackhouse books. I start #8 today. I could have stopped in the middle of #1 and not have lost any quality of my life

You are too funny! I read the Twilight books a few months ago and now I am stuck on True Blood. It’s an HBO series that you can watch online (If you look hard enough). Much more adult than the Twilight series, and I can’t wait until season 3 starts!!!

Hey, darlin’. No worries. I was in triple-digits last week and had to do some serious reading. I’m down to the mid-30s. Woo hoo! And, yeah. You totally have to put yourself in the mindset of a 15-year-old girl to successfully read the Twilight books.

Welcome back to the “real” world! Isn’t Edward dreamy?? My work buds and I all suffered a little bit of post partum depression when we finished the series. I think my boss was just glad we weren’t rolling in with our eyes propped open with toothpicks anymore. I loved the series!!

I am a friend of Sarah’s who has been reading this a while…
I threw that book several times. And not in the good “Harry Potter made me cry” way. In the “this is more emo than Howl” way.
I’ve done a good and fairly thorough takedown of the first two books at my blog, and I am trying to pluck up the courage to keep going.
Your photoshop skills are mad! I may try to contact you in the future for assistance! Wheee!

You my friend, are a rockstar. Man enough to read the Twilight series? Ten kinds of awesome!! My husband can’t even make it through the movie without rolling his eyes about a thousand times while I sit totally engrossed in everthing that is Edward.
